Southwest Florida International in Fort Myers is about 45 minutes north of Old Naples on Interstate 75, longer in season traffic. Its 12,000 ft runway and separate general aviation ramp make it the airport for heavy jets, large groups, and the peak weeks when Naples has no parking left. For Bonita Springs, Estero and Sanibel it is often the closer airport anyway.
LUK · Lunken Field
Lunken Field is on the east side of Cincinnati, about 10 to 15 minutes to downtown and 10 to 20 minutes to Hyde Park, Mariemont and Indian Hill. The main runway is about 6,100 ft, fine for the light, midsize and super midsize jets on this page. FBOs on the field and no airline traffic. It sits low by the Ohio River, so fall and winter mornings can fog in for an hour or two after sunrise. A late morning landing usually avoids it.
CVG · Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International
Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International is in Hebron, Kentucky, about 20 to 25 minutes to downtown Cincinnati. Runways of 12,000 ft take every aircraft, there is an FBO on the field, and airline traffic runs all day. It wins for heavy jets, for the west side and Northern Kentucky, and on the mornings Lunken is fogged in.

Naples season runs from about Thanksgiving through Easter. For Cincinnati the tightest weeks are Christmas through New Year, Presidents Day weekend, and the late March and early April spring breaks, when Ohio schools are out and Florida based aircraft are booked early. On those dates the aircraft on this leg is often positioned in from another city, which is why a one way estimate runs wider than a round trip. Summer is quieter both ways, with afternoon thunderstorms over Southwest Florida that crews plan around.
- Lunken sits in the river bottom, so fall and winter mornings can fog in. For a winter arrival, a late morning landing is the easy one. If it does not lift, CVG is the switch, decided with you that morning.
- This is a light jet leg for up to six with weekend bags. A midsize adds a stand up cabin and room for the golf clubs.
- Headed to Columbus instead? Ohio State University Airport (OSU) on the northwest side of Columbus is the usual choice. Ask and we quote it the same way.
- Lunken is a general aviation field with no airline terminal. You are in the car within minutes of the door opening, and downtown is close.
